About This Marching Band Show...
The preshow sets up this nautical theme with a haunting rendition of Nearer my God to Thee and the Navy hymn. The opening statement features Gustav Holst's Jupiter from the Planets to convey the sheer size the Titanic was. As the Titanic departs from it's port, John Mackey's Kingfisher's Catch Fire gives the feeling of a ship moving through the ocean waters. The ballad features Etta Jame's, At Last and sets the mood for the nighttime entertainment onboard. The moment the Titanic hit the iceberg is portrayed using the beginning clarinet solo from Scott McAllister's Black Dog. The panic on the ship happens during the percussion feature through Mozart's Dies Irae from his Requiem. As the ship begins to sink, the Dies Irae motif begins to build for an impactful and emotional ending. While this show is based off the Titanic story, it can also be used for other nautical themed shows.
